The Texans finished 11th in one of the nation's six regional tournaments featuring the best teams in collegiate women's golf, with Tarleton State competing against No. 6 Texas and No. 7 Wake Forest, amongst others, at The Rawls Course Sunday-Tuesday. Tarleton State entered the 12-team event as the No. 11 seed, and finished as such at +54 (313-312-293).
Wake Forest led after each day and won the tournament at -2, with the Texans taking second at +2, Iowa State third at +10, Tennessee fourth at +22, and Purdue fifth at +25. Those five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, California. Texas A&M also shot +25 to tie Purdue, but the Boilermakers won the playoff hole by two strokes.
, the Western Athletic Co-Golfer of the Year, finished first on the Texans at +12, thanks to an even-par third round on Tuesday. She played her best golf of the tournament across her final nine holes, going -2 on the front side, with three birdies and a bogey. Depadt tied-36th in the 68-woman field at +12 (77-79-72).
finished two strokes back of Depadt at +14 (76-83-71) for tied-45th. Fernandez led the Texans in two of the three rounds in Lubbock, posting a team-best first round score of +4, and a team-best round of the tournament in the third round at -1. On Tuesday, she opened with two birdies over her first five holes, and rattled off nine straight pars until her last hole. Fernandez's 71 was a season-best round for the Texan junior.
, an All-WAC Second team member, was a stroke behind Fernandez at +15 (79-73-79). She led the Texans after the second round with her +1 effort on Monday, and finished the tournament tied-48th. She had the tied-eighth most pars in the field overall with 37.
and rounded out the group for Tarleton State. Guzman shot +17 (81-79-73) for tied-54th, and Fox shot +26 (84-81-77) for 60th. Guzman had a -1 effort across an 11-hole stretch on Tuesday, posting 15 pars in the round, while Fox drained four birdies, tied with Depadt's third round with the most birdies in a round by a Texan this tournament.
Four of the five Texans shot their best round of the tournament on Tuesday.
Wake Forest's Carolina Chacarra was the medalist at -7 (69-70-69). The advancing individual to the NCAA Championship is Florida Gulf Coast's Lousiane Gauthier, who finished in fourth at even-par (69-76-71). Gauthier is the advancing individual as Chacarra, Texas' Farah O'Keefe (second at -4) and Wake Forest's Chloe Kovelesky (third at -2) already clinched spots in the national championship tournament as members of advancing teams.
This concludes Tarleton State's special 2024-25 campaign, led by the WAC's Co-Coach of the Year, . Including a WAC Championship victory, the Texans finished top-two in six tournaments this season, top-three in seven and top-four in eight.
