Portland, OR - Today, nearly two months after Donald Trump signed an illegal executive order attacking free and fair elections by restricting mail-in voting, a federal judge sided with the Trump administration and rejected a request to block the order.
The court's decision comes as Republicans across the country have lost seat after seat over the recent months in elections due to their toxic, cost-raising agenda. The Supreme Court also recently struck a major blow to the Voting Rights Act, eliminating protections that ensure minority voting representation in an effort to protect Republican seats. Even with all the attacks on the nation's election system, Trump-endorsed campaigns are 0 for 13 in general elections this year.
"Trump and his allies know they don't stand a chance this November, and they're taking every possible avenue to silence voters," said Candy Emmons, Executive Director of the Democratic Party of Oregon. "But make no mistake: Democrats across the country will make sure all Americans have their voices heard in the upcoming election. Oregon was the first state to vote by mail, and we have been doing so safely and securely for decades - we won't let these illegal executive orders change that now."
