Building for Growth and Creating Opportunities

O'Reilly Auto Parts is building for future growth, cutting the ribbon on a new, 550,000-square foot distribution center (DC) in Stafford County, Virginia, that will supply its customers in the Mid-Atlantic region.

"This new DC is an important step in serving more people in this area of the country," said Brent Kirby, president of O'Reilly Auto Parts. "We want to ensure they always experience our unmatched auto parts availability. If a retail customer is in the middle of fixing their car - or a professional customer is making a repair for their client - we know having the right parts when you need them is essential."

The new DC also adds jobs to the area. "We have more than 225 team members on board already, with additional positions to fill," said C. Jones, Stafford DC manager. "Several of our managers, including me, relocated to the area to lead work in this new facility, advancing our careers alongside the company's growth. Those promote-from-within opportunities are available to everyone who comes on board, works hard, and dedicates themselves to learning more."

High-tech jobs are part of the new facility, too, as they're required to run and service the latest in automation technology, which enables O'Reilly to store smaller parts in a dense grid. Team members input order details, and the system sends them the parts they need.

The facility also features traditional shelving, forklifts, conveyor belts and manual order pulling. Potentially hazardous material is kept in a separate area to protect team members and the community. In the event of an emergency, those rooms seal to contain what's inside.

As O'Reilly Auto Parts has grown, its distribution network has expanded to 32 large distribution centers across the U.S., Mexico and Canada, including one in Puerto Rico. Work is underway on two other O'Reilly DCs - an expansion in Lakeland, Florida, and a new facility in Fort Worth, Texas.

"With all the growth that's happened since our company's founding with one store in 1957, what's so exciting to me is that most of our growth is still ahead of us," said CEO Brad Beckham. "This is our latest step in providing the best service to more people in more places."
