PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY, AND PUBLIC CLEANLINESS Works start on Mellieħa garden

A project close to around 3,000 residents

Work is underway on a stretch of land of about 2,000 square metres in a residential area in Triq il-Għasel in Mellieħa

This was announced by Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli, in conjunction with the Mellieħa Local Council, during a site visit to the ongoing works.

Currently, excavation works are taking place for a three-level reservoir with a capacity of approximately 380 cubic metres for the irrigation of this garden. With an investment of around €1.5 million, the project will include various pathways and will incorporate the construction of educational workshops as well as public facilities.

The project includes the planting of 64 trees and 150 shrubs.

"Project after project, we are continuing to improve our environment and the quality of life of people in their localities. At the same time, we are fulfilling our promise to provide more open spaces in different areas close to residents. In fact, this project will benefit around 3,000 residents," remarked Minister Miriam Dalli.

The project manager for this project, Chiara Darmanin, said that this project is part of a series of projects being carried out by Project Green. The Mellieħa project is one of 19 that the Project Green Agency is currently working on. She added that excavation works are currently taking place in the rock to prepare the base of the garden, where a reservoir will be built underneath to be used for irrigation of the same garden.
