Washington, DC - On Friday, the Trump administration announcedit is distributing up to $100 million to "refurbish and modernize" dangerous and deadly coal plants, a part of the Department of Energy's plan to invest $625 millionto prop up the coal industry.
In response to the DOE announcement, Sierra Club Climate Policy Director Patrick Drupp said:
"This DOE scheme is just the latest Trump administration action that harms people and the planet. Their pro fossil fuel agenda is intent on keeping deadly and expensive coal plants alive while Americans foot the bill and suffer the public health damage. We'll continue to fight back against the many ways this administration is illegally and dangerously propping up fossil fuels when reliable, clean, and affordable renewable energy is available instead."
