Breaking Ground on New Recovery Housing for Women and Families

Women and families in Raleigh will soon have an affordable place to call home thanks to a new community, Forward Together.Raleigh leaders and neighbors gathered Friday to mark the project's groundbreaking.

In November 2025, City Council approved $2.2 million in Affordable Housing Bond funds to support this new community. The project will create 17 affordable units on the local nonprofit's Healing Transitions'Women's Campus. The homes are designed for women and mothers who have completed recovery programs.

"Affordable and safe housing is a core pillar of health," The City's Housing and Community Development Director Emila Sutton said. "By providing these 17 units, we are creating an environment where the long-term well-being of women and families can thrive."

Residents will have spaces to relax, exercise, and connect. Plans includes yoga and meditation rooms, children's play areas, and gathering spaces for peer support and family time. Located near public transit, grocery stores, pharmacies, and schools, the site will help residents stay connected to their community.

The homes will remain affordable for at least 50 years. Projects like Forward Together help solve the affordable housing puzzle, one piece at a time.
