U.S. News Ranks Scripps No. 1 for Orthopedic Care in San Diego

U.S. News & World Report has named Scripps Health No. 1 for orthopedic care in the San Diego region and among the nation's top 50 in six adult medical specialties in the 2026 U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings.

Overall, three Scripps hospitals - Scripps Green Hospital, Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla and Scripps Mercy Hospital - ranked among the five best in San Diego County.

The annual report, now in its 37th year, is one of the nation's most recognized independent evaluations of hospital quality, patient outcomes and specialty care. U.S. News evaluates hospitals in 14 adult specialties and 23 common procedures and conditions. Of the nearly 4,500 hospitals evaluated this year, only 4% earned a U.S. News Best Hospitals ranking.

"These rankings recognize hospitals that consistently deliver high-quality care for complex medical conditions," said Scripps Health President and CEO Chris Van Gorder. "Without a doubt, Scripps hospitals are consistently included among the U.S. News Best Hospitals because of a constant commitment from our physicians, nurses and employees to deliver excellent patient care and an exceptional patient experience."

For the first time in more than a decade, Scripps Green Hospital and Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla were evaluated and ranked as separate hospitals rather than being grouped together. Top 50 nationally ranked specialties at the two hospitals were:

  • Diabetes & Endocrinology (No. 16 - Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla)
  • Geriatrics (No. 27 - Scripps Green Hospital)
  • Cardiology (No. 32 - Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla)
  • Gastroenterology and GI Surgery (No. 34 - Scripps Green Hospital)
  • Obstetrics and Gynecology (No. 36 - Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla)
  • Orthopedics (No. 41 - Scripps Green Hospital)
