Pitt was named a Leading Disability Employer for a second year

For the second year in a row, the University of Pittsburgh has been named a Leading Disability Employer by the National Organization on Disability (NOD).

Pitt is one of only two institutions of higher education on the list, joining Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. NOD selected Pitt for its overall efforts in fostering a disability-friendly workspace, including in workforce strategy, culture, talent sourcing and accessibility.

Leigh Culley, director of Disability Resources and Services in Pitt's Office of Institutional Engagement and Well-being, said the repeat recognition is a testament to Pitt's reputation for academic excellence and dedication to creating a supportive and welcoming community.

"Employers who prioritize disability inclusion foster an inclusive workforce that brings a wide range of perspectives, skills and innovation," Culley said. "All individuals, regardless of ability, have equal opportunities to contribute their talents meaningfully. By creating a welcoming environment for people with disabilities, we cultivate a culture of belonging that benefits the entire community."

This honor, awarded each October as part of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, recognizes exceptional disability practices and policies across the entire employee lifecycle. Explore the efforts that put Pitt on the list.

"We know disability inclusive organizations are better positioned to attract and retain top talent, improve employee satisfaction, and expand market reach. We applaud the University of Pittsburgh's investment in professional opportunities and futures for Americans with disabilities," said NOD President and CEO Beth Sirull.
