Ribbon-Cutting Scheduled for New Bridge Opening at Routes A/B Interchange over I-70 in Warren Co.

HANNIBAL - The public is invited to help celebrate the completion and opening of the new bridge at Routes A/B and Interstate 70 Interchange (mile marker 188.6), near Pendleton in Warren County. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, November 12, at 10:30 a.m. on the newly constructed bridge at the Routes A/B Interchange.

All ramps at the interchange are closed. Attendees will need to use either Exit 183 at Jonesburg Route Y or Exit 191 at West Warrenton Route MM to exit I-70 to reach West Veterans Memorial Parkway and Route B to access the entrance to the ceremony. Parking will be available between the West Veterans Memorial Parkway and the eastbound I-70 ramps.

Work on the project began earlier this Spring. Contractor crews with Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. have worked diligently to complete several phases of the work, including the bridge construction, months ahead of scheduled completion dates.

Following the ceremony, motorists can expect the following traffic impacts:

  • The bridge and all ramps at the interchange will be open to traffic
  • A 35-day CLOSURE will be in place beginning November 3 through mid-December to facilitate tie-in work. Detailed closure locations are as follows:
    • Route A: closed from just north of the Northwest Service Road to the I-70 westbound ramps
    • NW Service Rd: closed just east and west of the Route A intersection
  • The existing bridge is tentatively scheduled to be removed in the Spring of 2026.

While this project is funded separately from the Statewide Improve I-70 Program, which will add a third lane in each direction of I-70 between Blue Springs and Wentzville, this project is one of several projects that will modernize the I-70 corridor across the state.

This bridge structure carries approximately 4,000 vehicles daily and has been designed with a wider bridge deck allowing for the addition of shoulders and turn lanes. This contract was awarded to Emery Sapp & Sons, Inc. and includes the following improvements:

  • A corridor realignment with the new bridge constructed east of the existing bridge
  • A new 56' wide bridge consisting of 12' driving lanes, 12' left turn lane and 10' shoulders
  • A southbound Route B right turn lane to West Veterans Memorial Parkway
  • A northbound Route B right turn lane to eastbound I-70 on-ramp
  • An updated bridge structure to accommodate the Improve I-70 template, including a wider the bridge span allowing for the addition of a third I-70 traffic lane and increased the bridge clearance from the bottom of the bridge girder to the I-70 traffic lane.

"This marks the completion of the first in a series of planned improvement projects along the I-70 corridor in Warren County. We're thrilled to officially reopen the interchange to the traveling public and area residents. The upgraded structure is wider, includes a left turn lane and additional features to address future growth along with improved bridge clearance and span lengths," stated Area Engineer Jeff Niemeyer.
