Tigard, OR - Today, U.S. Congresswoman Andrea Salinas (OR-06) released the following statement following the release of an Oregon firefighter from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.
"I am relieved that my constituent, Mr. Rigoberto Hernandez, was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) today. Mr. Hernandez was arrested while fighting the Bear Gulch Fire, where he risked his life to protect our communities from deadly wildfires.
"Despite President Trump's claims that he would only target dangerous criminals and gang members, it's clear that he is going after the people who work to keep our communities safe. On top of their inhumane approach to immigration enforcement, the Trump Administration violated my constituent's constitutional rights by denying him the ability to contact his attorney. This is outrageous. I will continue to conduct congressional oversight of ICE to act as a check on the illegal behavior of this administration to ensure that everyone is granted due process."
