The Acura brand is returning to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES for the fourth time this season, with 2022 Indianapolis 500 winner Marcus Ericsson driving the #28 Andretti Global Acura-branded Honda at the Freedom 250 race next weekend.
The Freedom 250 is a once-in-a-lifetime event, bringing the cars and stars of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES to the streets of Washington DC. More than 250,000 fans applied for the 100,000 available free tickets for the weekend to see the IndyCar series race around the National Mall in DC.
The #28 Acura-branded Honda-powered entry celebrates not only 250 years of America, but 40 years of Acura since the brand's inception in 1986. Acura debuted in America on March 27, 1986, as the first Japanese luxury car brand. With the introduction of the Legend sedan and the sporty Integra, Acura marked a turning point in the luxury car market as a brand powered by innovation, outstanding quality and reliability, and industry-leading customer satisfaction.
The partnership with Ericsson and Andretti Global comes as Acura seeks to engage a growing audience of passionate motorsports fans US through the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. Through the month of July, IndyCar viewership is up 17% compared to 2025 and 49% on 2024. Road America's race was the most-watched non-Indy 500 race since 2011 with an average of 1.8 million viewers, and despite the weather delay in Nashville, 2.9 million viewers stayed on Fox following the world cup and watched interviews with IndyCar's stars.
In three races this season so far, the Acura-backed Honda-powered Indy cars have notched two top-five finishes. Felix Rosenqvist put his #60 on pole at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach and finished P2 in the race, while Marcus Armstrong finished fifth in a strong showing in the Acura colors at the Indianapolis 500. Armstrong also earned the Biggest Mover award in Mid-Ohio sporting Acura colors. His fellow Marcus, this time Ericsson, will be looking to put in another strong result for the Acura brand.
Marcus Ericsson is no stranger to success on street circuits, not only is he the winner at last Sunday's Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham- a brand-new street circuit in Markham, Canada-Ericsson has scored victories on the streets of Belle Isle, Detroit; Nashville; and St. Petersburg, Florida during his IndyCar career. He also put his #28 Andretti Global machine on pole on the streets of Arlington, Texas earlier this year. Of the last four inaugural street circuit events in IndyCar, Ericsson has taken the win at two of them. The Swedish driver will be looking to repeat that success of last weekend and drive his Acura-branded Honda to victory lane in DC for the second-consecutive race.
Ericsson will make a special appearance at Chevy Chase Acura in Bethesda, Maryland on Thursday, August 20th from 3-5 PM.
