I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project Updates: Traffic Shift on I-16 West Bound Off Ramp @ Exit 2 MLK Bld. (Ramp A) ; I-16 West Bound; I-16 East; Emory Highway Access to I-16 Westbound Closure starting On Friday, Jan 23, 2026
MACON-BIBB - Contractors for the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (GDOT) will continue construction activities related to the I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project next week in Macon-Bibb. Weather and on-site conditions permitting, the scheduled activities beginning Friday January 23, 2026
Traffic Shifts:
Friday, January 23, 2026 starting @9 p.m. Emory Highway Access to I-16 Westbound on-ramp new configuration

Beginning at 9:00PM access to I-16 westbound from Emory Highway will be shifted to the new configurations to continue with staged construction. Motorists traveling westbound on Emory Highway will no longer be permitted travel across to the I-16 WB on ramp and will be required to turn right or left. Traffic from Emory Highway will be directed to access I-16 westbound via the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on-ramp.
Friday January 23, 2026 @9 p.m. On I-16 West Bound off ramp @ exit 2 MLK:

Traffic I-16 westbound at exit 2 will be shifted from the existing ramp to the newly constructed ramp to the adjacent right starting @ 9 p.m. and will be completed by 5:00 a.m.
Friday January 23, 2026 @9p.m. On I-16 East Bound from mile post 1 to mile post 2.5:

Left lane closure on I-16 Eastbound will be installed. During this closure, the existing striping will be eradicated and restriped in order to shift traffic onto the newly constructed left lanes.
Friday January 23, 2026 @9p.m. On I-16 West Bound from mile post 0 to mile post 2:

Right lane closure on I-16 WB will be installed. During this closure existing striping along the right lane as well as the access to Exit 1B (Ramp G) access will be eradicated and restriped. Once completed the traveling public will be on to the newly constructed right lanes.
The I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project is a $600 million safety and mobility megaproject. With its massive scope to widen and reconstruct I-16, I-75 and their interchange in Macon-Bibb, this project is being delivered in seven design and construction phases that will continue through 2030. When complete, new CD lanes, additional interstate lanes, new interstate on-and off-ramps, upgrades to 11 bridges, new walls, upgraded drainage systems, etc. will deliver safer and improved mobility for Macon-Bibb's local commuters and businesses, regional travelers and commercial freight from the Georgia southern coast to destinations within the state and throughout the U.S.
