Tom Pelphry, Franka Potente, and Tracy Letts Join Vanessa Kirby & Yahya Abdul-Mateen II In Apple Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Liminal

EXCLUSIVE: Fresh off his critically lauded role in HBO's Task, Tom Pelphrey has inked a deal to star opposite Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Liminal, Apple's new sci-fi action-thriller. Franka Potente (Run Lola Run) and Tracy Letts (A House of Dynamite) have also signed on for the film.
Directed by Louis Leterrier, Liminal is based on the AWA graphic novel Telepaths by Eisner Award winner J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting and Brian Reber, which takes place in a world where a tenth of the population suddenly gains telepathic powers as a result of an electromagnetic disturbance.
Character details for the new hires are under wraps. An official logline for the feature take hasn't yet been issued.
Hailing from Apple Studios, Liminal is written by Justin Rhodes (Terminator: Dark Fate). Zach Studin will produce for AWA Studios, alongside Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company via his overall deal with Apple Studios. Ray Angelic will exec produce alongside Straczynski, Epting and Reber, with Patrick McNamara co-producing for The Walsh Company. Juliet Kirby is also co-producing.
Expect Pelphrey to be an ongoing presence in the awards race this season with his starring role opposite Mark Ruffalo in Task, HBO's crime drama from Mare of Easttown's Brad Ingelsby. His role as Robbie Prendergrast, a Philadelphia area garbage collector turned trap house robber who is hunted by the FBI, has already earned him a Critics Choice Award nomination, following Critics Choice and Emmy noms for his work in Netflix's Ozark.
Upcoming, Pelphrey will also be seen starring alongside Grant Gustin in the dark comedy Rooster from Mills McQueen. He is repped by Gersh, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Sloan, Offer, Weber & Dern.
Potente is a German actress best known for leading the classic indie thriller Run Lola Run who garnered further recognition with roles in Blow, opposite Johnny Depp, and the Bourne franchise, opposite Matt Damon, when she made the leap to Hollywood features after half a decade of well-received roles in German productions. Most recently, she's been seen in the AMC series Dark Winds and Mayfair Witches, the DC/HBO Max series Titans, and Apple TV's Echo 3. She is represented by Yazzy Entertainment and Artium Talent.
A Pulitzer and Tony-winning and Emmy-nominated actor, playwright, and screenwriter, Letts is coming off of roles in Kathryn Bigelow's A House of Dynamite and FX's The Lowdown opposite Ethan Hawke. He'll next he seen in Karim Aïnouz's Mubi thriller Rosebush Pruning, releasing July 24, as well as Amazon MGM Studios' I Play Rocky, and Guy Nattiv's Bleecker Street thriller Harmonia. He is repped by UTA and Weintraub Tobin Chediak.
