Dubbo Regional Council is recognising Community Safety Awareness Month during October, by providing tips and hints to raise awareness about safety in our Local Government Area.
Following the adoption of the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan, Council has developed a program of messages regarding community safety topics that are relevant to our residents.
Partnering with Government and Non-Government stakeholders, Council will be sharing messages across communication platforms, starting in the month of October.
A new web page on the dubbo.nsw.gov.au website has also been developed to make sure the safety messages are clearly visible to the community.
DRC Mayor Josh Black said community safety was important for everyone.
"We had a lot of feedback during both the consultation period and the public exhibition for the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan.
"By sharing these messages directly from the authorities that deliver them we are making sure they are promoted as widely as possible," Clr Black said.
During the month Council will share a different message each week with topics to include personal safety, pedestrian safety, fire safety and water safety with the messages coming directly from the relevant authorities.
"When you look at personal safety, we will be talking about making sure your car is locked, considering cameras at your front door, but also how the NSW Police BluLink service works in conjunction with Triple 0.
"We are also focusing on pedestrian safety, especially around school zones and on shared pathways and making sure your smoke alarms are working," Clr Black said.
With the weather warming up Council is also encouraging those with backyard swimming pools to undertake pre-season checks to ensure they are compliant.
"We want people to look at their fencing, make sure the gates are self-closing and ensure that there is nothing near the fence that a child could use to climb into the pool area," Clr Black said.
