REMINDER: Today is the Deadline for Elected Incumbents Seeking Re-election to File for May 2026 Primary

Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read is reminding Oregonians that today, March 3, 2026, is the deadline for elected incumbents seeking re-election to the same office to file for the May 2026 primary. The deadline for all other candidates to file is March 10, 2026.

"Running for office is one of the best ways Oregonians can step up to serve their communities. My office is committed to providing every candidate seeking office with the support they need to file, and we don't want anyone to miss out because they aren't aware of these recent changes," said Secretary Read.

This is the first year that the new filing deadlines for incumbents are in effect. House Bill 4024 requires elected incumbents to file seven days ahead of the deadline for all other candidates.

These changes are all outlined in the State Candidate Manual; the County, City and District Candidate Manual; and filing forms created by the Elections Division.

Any candidate with questions about this change may contact the Oregon Secretary of State's Elections Division.
