Palabras de Su Majestad el Rey en la clausura de la segunda edición del “Invest in Spain Summit”

It is again a great pleasure to participate in this Invest in Spain Summit, now in its 2nd edition. This time around, I have the honour of closing the sessions, so I dearly hope you are all happy and well satisfied in your expectations.

I would like to thank ICEX for successfully organizing this event, this business "Summit". An effort that serves a clear purpose: to strengthen Spain's position as a trusted destination for investment, and to bring together companies and institutions to explore new opportunities.

Today, more than 150 representatives from over 70 leading global companies have gathered here in Madrid, spanning sectors and continents alike -with a particularly strong presence of companies from the USA , Spain's largest investor and one of the main destinations for our own investment abroad. This diversity reflects not only the range of your origins and sectors, but also a shared purpose: to invest, look for partnerships and contribute to the transformations shaping our economies.

It is certainly a great and positive sign to see the strong interest that our country continues to generate among the international business community. This gathering has offered a valuable opportunity for direct engagement between companies and public institutions, in what −I understand− has been an open and constructive exchange, strengthening ties and opening new paths for cooperation.

We meet today in a place of special significance. Royal Collections Gallery, which you will have the opportunity to visit later this evening. Allow me to say that I am your host, of sorts, although we should all thank Patrimonio Nacional for their hospitality here at the Gallery. This museum symbolises the meeting point between heritage and horizon. Within its walls, history and modernity coexist, just as they do in the contemporary history of Spanish openness to foreign investment and trade.

For more than a century -indeed, even before the establishment of the main foreign Chambers of Commerce in our country -international companies have found in Spain a place to grow and prosper. Over time, Spain itself has undergone a profound transformation. Today, our strength lies in our ability to create value -through quality, innovation and our capacity to transform and generate long-term opportunities.

Spain stands among the world's leading destinations for FDI, ranking number 12 globally We are also at the forefront in key sectors: the world's 3rd largest recipient of greenfield renewable energy projects, and the 7th country for FDI in software and IT services .

"...For more than a century international companies have found in Spain a place to grow and prosper. Over time, Spain itself has undergone a profound transformation. Today, our strength lies in our ability to create value -through quality, innovation and our capacity to transform and generate long-term opportunities..."

These figures speak of progress −but above all, of confidence. Confidence in a country that has transformed itself, that attracts and nurtures talent. Foreign companies have been central to this journey, growing with Spain and contributing to its development.

The projects presented today -in digital transformation, energy transition, sustainable mobility and biotechnology− place Spain at the heart of the defining shifts of our time. Shifts that call for vision, commitment and close collaboration -between institutions and businesses, across regions and sectors, and among both those already established and those beginning their journey in Spain.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We are living in times of great uncertainty. For decades, global growth has rested on a system grounded in rules, openness and cooperation -a framework that has allowed companies to operate with freedom and predictability.

Today, that balance is under strain. Many foresee a more fragmented, inward-looking and less certain world. Yet the principles that have sustained prosperity over time remain as relevant as ever, and it is our collective responsibility to uphold them.

Against this backdrop, companies such as those represented here today play a defining role: not only investing or operating across borders, but also connecting economies, advancing innovation and helping to shape more prosperous societies. To fulfil that role, you require stability and clarity - and Spain offers a predictable framework for investment, well grounded in its legal system, a strong European vocation and a lasting commitment to international cooperation; that is also distinctively reinforced by our deep ties to the Americas, the Mediterranean basin and Africa.

Spain is a dynamic and outward-looking economy: a leading global tourism destination, welcoming close to one hundred million visitors last year ; a country reaching record export levels; and a welcoming business ecosystem that is increasingly international.

In this context, we do not merely seek investment -we seek partnership: a place where projects take root, grow and endure; where ideas become action and action becomes shared progress.

This Summit is part of that effort. We close this edition, but we continue the work -through ongoing collaboration, dialogue and support for your projects; and we look to the future convinced that this shared commitment will continue to deepen, as you explore, expand and develop your projects in Spain.

Thank you all very much.
