Consular visit to two Italian nationals from the Flotilla detained in Libya

The Italian Consul General in Benghazi, Filippo Colombo, carried out yesterday evening an initial visit to the two Italian nationals, activists of the "Land Flotilla", who are being held at a police facility in eastern Libya. The Consul reported that he found them in good condition, but requested that the local authorities make certain improvements to their detention conditions, also for the benefit of the other activists in the group of various nationalities who have requested assistance from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The authorities in eastern Libya have agreed to allow the detainees to take showers, receive a change of clothing and be provided with improved accommodation arrangements. The Consul has not yet received any information regarding the procedures for a possible expulsion, which has been delayed due to the Islamic holiday currently being observed in Libya.
