At the "88th Industry Development Forum" hosted by the Korea Industry Alliance Forum (KIAF), Senior Consultant Marn-Ki Jeong opened the forum with introductory remarks emphasizing the need to wisely respond to environmental changes in China. This was followed by a presentation from Changrong Xu, Senior Attorney (admitted to the Chinese Bar) at Dentons Lee, who participated as a speaker.
Under the theme of "China Market Access Trends, Issues and Response Measures," the forum examined recent shifts in China's industrial and trade landscape and market access conditions. It served as a platform to discuss regulatory and legal risks that Korean companies may encounter when expanding into or operating businesses in the Chinese market, along with effective mitigation strategies.
In Session 1, Cecilia Sun-Young Shin, Director of the Marketing Strategy Department at the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), delivered a presentation on trends and responses in the Chinese Market. She emphasized that to compete with China-which continues to advance not only in price competitiveness but also in technology and quality-companies should move away from a strategy of simply trying to win, and instead focus on understanding each other's strengths and weaknesses to pursue mutually beneficial growth.
Subsequently, in Session 2, Senior Attorney Changrong Xu introduced a recent real-world case involving Ilyang Pharmaceutical. He debunked common negative misconceptions surrounding business operations in China, such as "litigation is unwinnable" and "capital cannot be repatriated." He provided a detailed overview of how Dentons Lee and our Chinese partner law firm successfully achieved the practical repatriation of funds to Korea, including unallocated retained earnings and damages, and seamlessly reclaimed intellectual property rights, including trademarks and patents, by integrating legal, business, and government relations strategies.
The forum offered practical insights to industry professionals by sharing the current atmosphere regarding China's domestic and export markets, as well as effective, integrated approaches to resolving Chinese business disputes. Leveraging its deep expertise in cross-border matters and international litigation and enforcement, Dentons Lee will continue to deliver steadfast support to help clients successfully navigate their global business challenges.
