Coral Gables residents registered to vote by March 23 should expect to receive a mail ballot in advance of the city's April 21 Special Election. This election will only be conducted via mail.
That ballot will feature eight proposed charter amendments...
What's on the ballot?
-
A proposal to change the date of municipal elections to coincide with the date for November national elections
-
Another proposal prohibiting elected officials from changing the election date away from the November national election date via ordinance
-
A third proposal permitting an elected official who has appointed a member of a city board for a certain term to remove that member before the expiration of that term.
-
A fourth proposal to require the City Commission to convene a Charter Review Commission every ten years.
-
A fifth proposal authorizing contracting for inspector general services.
-
A sixth proposal to require a vote by electors before changing the compensation of elected officials other than adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index.
-
A seventh proposal to eliminate runoff elections for Mayor and City Commissioner.
-
A final proposal to require reserves of at least 25% of the annual budget, plus a four/fifths supermajority vote of the Commission to amend the fund reserve policy established by ordinance.
Those who do not receive a ballot, or those who cannot locate theirs, may submit a request for a duplicate ballot by April 9.
