The upcoming trip will be President Lee Jae Myung's first visit to China after coming into office. China and the ROK are each other's important neighbor and cooperation partner. Xinhua News Agency: Foreign ministers of China, Cambodia and Thailand held a successful trilateral meeting in Yunnan yesterday and a press release was issued after the meeting. What is China's comment on the meeting? What will China do next to help deliver on the consensus of the meeting?
Lin Jian: On the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of China, Cambodia, and Thailand, we've released information yesterday.
Immediately after Cambodia and Thailand signed a joint statement agreeing to a ceasefire on December 27, foreign ministers and senior military officials of China, Cambodia and Thailand met by the Fuxian Lake in Yuxi, Yunnan. They had helpful and constructive discussions on consolidating the ceasefire and improving the bilateral relations between Cambodia and Thailand, and reached important consensus. The press release of China-Cambodia-Thailand Fuxian Meeting identifies five aspects where Cambodia and Thailand will step up communication and enhance mutual understanding, namely consolidating ceasefire, resuming normal exchanges step by step, rebuilding political mutual trust, improving Cambodia-Thailand bilateral relations and safeguarding regional stability. Cambodia and Thailand expressed their gratitude to China for providing strong support for closer dialogue between the two countries, and appreciated China's positive role. China supports the peace effort of ASEAN. We will continue to play a constructive role in the Asian way in the rebuilding of mutual trust between Cambodia and Thailand, and stand ready to promote Cambodia-Thailand relations, and offer all necessary facilitation and support, including ceasefire monitoring, humanitarian assistance and de-mining cooperation, so that Cambodia-Thailand relations will soon return to the right track.
China, Cambodia and Thailand met in Shanghai in July and reached consensus in Anning in August. This week's meeting and consensus by the Fuxian Lake in Yuxi, Yunnan once again shows China's role as a benign and effective enabler and non-disruptive, non-competitive and non-hegemonic approach when it comes to resolving conflicts, and reflects China's image as a responsible major country. China will continue to make due efforts in its own way to uphold regional peace and stability and advance the building of a community with a shared future with our neighbors.
Financial Times: The U.S. tech company Meta has said it's going to acquire Manus, an AI startup founded in China. Does China have any position on this deal?
Lin Jian: I'd refer you to competent authorities.
AFP: Regarding the ongoing live-fire drills conducted by China's People's Liberation Army around Taiwan. Yesterday you mentioned that they were a response to actions by external forces. U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the drills do not worry him and he has said it's just something China has done for the last couple of decades. What is China's reaction to Donald Trump's perspective on these drills?
Lin Jian: Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The military drills by the PLA are a punitive and deterrent action against separatist forces who seek "Taiwan independence" through military buildup, and a necessary move to safeguard China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
RIA Novosti: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said yesterday that Ukraine had launched an attack on the residence of the Russian President in the Novgorod region using more than 90 drones. He also added that Russia does not intend to withdraw from the negotiation process with the United States despite this attack. I wonder what's China's comment on this situation?
Lin Jian: Dialogue and negotiation is the only viable way out of the Ukraine crisis. We call on relevant parties to follow the principles of no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no provocation by any party, work for deescalation of the situation, and accumulate conditions for the political settlement of the crisis.
