Venezuela: Prime Minister hosts Nobel Peace Prize winner

The Prime Minister Luís Montenegro hosted today the Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado at the official residence in São Bento.

At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister stated that Venezuela is experiencing a time that could pave the way to a democratic transition, stressing the importance of holding "absolutely free" elections.

Luís Montenegro also noted that this process is being attentively followed by Portugal given the large Portuguese community residing in Venezuela.

The Prime Minister also praised the release of the Luso-Venezuelan citizen Héctor Ferreira Domingues, upholding that the evolution of the situation in the country must include new releases and the return of exiled citizens.

The Head of Government also underlined the historical ties between Portugal and Venezuela and expressed hope for a future in peace, freedom and prosperity for the Venezuelan people.
