Statement on the occasion of UITBB's 77th Anniversary
On this momentous occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Trade Union International of Workers in the Building, Wood, Building Materials and Allied Industries (UITBB), we celebrate seven decades of unwavering commitment to the rights, dignity, and unity of workers across the globe.
Founded on July 14-16, 1949, in Milan, Italy, UITBB emerged from the need of working people after WWII to build a more just world. For 77 years, our organization has defended trade union rights, social progress, and international solidarity among workers in the construction, wood, and building materials sectors.
As an affiliate of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), UITBB continues to unite national trade union organizations without discrimination based on origin, gender, religion or nationality. We fight against capitalism, exploitation and injustice, we fight for decent working conditions, occupational safety, and the right to organize, while advocating for peace, democracy, and the self-determination of peoples.
Over these 77 years, UITBB has grown into a powerful voice representing tens of millions of workers worldwide. Through difficult periods during all this time, our movement has promoted workers unity, solidarity, and it has supported affiliated organizations in their struggles around the world.
Today, as we mark this milestone, we honor the legacy of past generations of trade unionists who helped paved the way for our organization and we are inspired from their sacrifices and achievements.
UITBB remains committed to continue down this path of militant struggles, and helping in any way possible, as society deals with issues such as wars, climate change and deepening inequalities.
Long live the international solidarity of workers!
Long live UITBB!
