Construction activity along the State Route (SR) 316 corridor continues to advance with work occurring at several key locations. Grading operations are underway on Barber Creek Road, Bethlehem Road, and the SR 316 inside shoulder widening. Crews are progressing with base work (the foundation layer) on the new ramps and frontage road parallel to Craft Road. Once this layer is in place and passes quality checks, paving can begin on top of it.

Drainage installation remains active, including work on Bethlehem Road, side roads, and ramps, along with the extensions of existing drainage pipes along SR 316. Bridge crews are also making visible progress. At Barber Creek Road, beams have been set, allowing work to shift to the bridge deck.

Crews have finished installing the metal decking that will hold the concrete driving surface. At Bethlehem Road, both support end walls are now complete. Erosion control and maintenance measures continue throughout the corridor, including the installation of silt fences, orange barrier fence s, temporary mulch, and construction exits. Traffic control operations remain in place to maintain safety for both workers and travelers.

In the weeks ahead, bridge crews will begin deck pours at Barber Creek Road following completion of the metal decking. At Bethlehem Road, work will continue on the bridge superstructure now that beams and end bents are in place. Additionally, crews will start temporary widening along the inside lanes of SR 316. Traffic will shift to these lanes once culvert extensions are complete.

These extensions consist of lengthening the permanent drainage structures that carry water safely under the roadway. Then construction will begin on widening the outside lanes.

Safety Spotlight: Careers in Construction
|
|
|
October is Careers in Construction Month, a time dedicated to increasing public awareness of the opportunities available within the construction industry. From engineers and surveyors to heavy equipment operators and construction inspectors, these professionals play a vital role in keeping projects like SR 316 Bundle 1 moving forward.
When you see crews at work, remember that every hard hat represents a career and a commitment to safety. Protecting work zones not only keeps traffic moving, but it also keeps these skilled professionals safe so they can continue shaping the future of our communities.
