Yahoo Mail Introduces Planner, an AI-Powered Personal Productivity Hub

Key Takeaways:

  • Yahoo Mail is evolving into an AI-powered productivity hub with the launch of Planner, unifying email, calendar, and task management
  • Cardi B stars in a new campaign from Yahoo, introducing the concept of "FOMSI" (Fear of Missing Something Important), showing fans how she uses Planner in Yahoo Mail to stay organized and keep on top of what's important
  • Yahoo Mail introduces a new native ad experience for brand advertisers with Sponsored Events in Planner - starting with an integration with H&R Block to surface timely tax reminders directly within users' daily workflow

Today, Yahoo Mail introduced Planner, a new AI-powered feature that transforms the inbox into a personal productivity hub. Unifying email, calendar, and task management, Planner automatically turns messages into actionable plans, easing the mental load of cluttered inboxes and busy schedules.

Planner uses AI to identify and extract the life admin often buried in emails, whether it's a school event, an appointment, bill payment deadline, or a reminder to bring cupcakes to a birthday party. By adding these entries directly to an integrated calendar and to-do list, Planner helps users stay on top of the details that keep life moving, without ever having to leave the app.

"For a long time, the inbox has been a passive repository for information. Yahoo Mail is changing that by moving from a searchable mail experience to an actionable one," said Kyle Miller, General Manager of Yahoo Mail. "Planner is the first major step toward a more agentic Yahoo Mail, utilizing intelligence that doesn't just show you your day but actively helps you coordinate it."

This first-of-its-kind feature will be powered by the Yahoo Scout Intelligence Platform, which combines advanced AI capabilities within all of Yahoo's leading vertical experiences, including Mail, News, Finance, Sports and more. Planner builds on the AI-powered email summaries and suggested actions that Yahoo Mail introduced last year to help surface important information from their inbox, while laying the foundation for more advanced, agentic tools to come. The new Planner feature is now rolling out to U.S. users in the Yahoo Mail app.

Cardi B stars in new campaign featuring Planner
To mark the rollout, Yahoo Mail is putting a name to that universal feeling of inbox anxiety: FOMSI, aka the Fear of Missing Something Important. In a new campaign called "Cardi B Busy," Cardi B turns to the new Planner feature from Yahoo Mail to stay on top of what matters and make time for what's important - like laughing at all her haters.

The spot opens in Cardi's green room, where she's mid-crash out trying to remember something important. Between unhelpful memories of eating spaghettis in Milan, an avalanche of notifications across multiple apps, and a mirror covered in post-it notes that all say "Don't forget about that thing," Cardi spirals into full FOMSI mode. Enter Cardi's longtime manager and creative director Patientce Foster, who reminds her to check the new Planner feature from Yahoo Mail. With one look at the app, Cardi finally remembers: "Ah! I almost forgot. I was planning to laugh at all of my haters. Heheheh."

"Cardi is the ultimate multi-hyphenate: an artist, entrepreneur, mom, and so much more, so naturally she's busy," said Josh Line, chief marketing officer at Yahoo. "Being busy often means juggling a million different tools to stay organized: notes, post-its, calendar apps, you name it. With this campaign, we're showing how the new Planner feature from Yahoo Mail brings everything together in one place, so you can squash your FOMSI and stay on top of what matters."

"FOMSI is real. Between my tour schedule and my personal life, I most definitely have the fear of missing something important," Cardi B added. "Thankfully, Planner in Yahoo Mail makes it easy for me, so I don't have to rely on my memory alone."

The 45-second spot, created in partnership with Conscious Minds and directed by Maya Table, will run across Yahoo brand social channels including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

Yahoo Mail debuts new opportunity for advertisers with Sponsored Events
The launch of Planner also introduces a new way for brands to connect with Yahoo Mail users through Sponsored Events. This new format allows advertisers to surface timely, relevant dates and events directly within the Planner view. From there, users have the option to add these events directly to their personal calendar or to-do list, creating a connection between a brand's services and important moments in users lives.

Yahoo is debuting this feature with H&R Block as its first brand partner around Planner. By surfacing critical tax deadlines and filing reminders, H&R Block is the first to demonstrate how brands can help users stay on top of life admin at relevant times, like tax season. This partnership demonstrates a unique way for advertisers to reach Yahoo Mail users, moving beyond traditional formats to provide genuine utility within a user's daily workflow.
