The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) submitted formal comments to New York Attorney General Letitia James on the proposed regulations implementing the SAFE for Kids Act. While supporting strong online protections for children, SIIA warns that the current draft rules could unintentionally increase data collection, introduce new cybersecurity risks, and create significant burdens for families and smaller platforms.

SIIA's comments highlight concerns about overly prescriptive age assurance requirements, excessive data retention mandates, an impractical parental consent process, unclear definitions of "addictive feeds," and the absence of a public safety exemption. The organization urges the Attorney General to adopt a more flexible and privacy-protective framework aligned with emerging national standards.
