Cybersecurity in Ports Workshop builds cyber resilience in the maritime arena

The National Computer Incident Response Team of The Bahamas (CIRT-BS), the Port Department and the Latin America and Caribbean Cyber Competence Centre (LAC4) are conducting a Cybersecurity in Ports Workshop -- three-day training and exercise programme to strengthen the cyber-resilience of Bahamian maritime and logistics infrastructure. The workshop sessions take place at the Paul Farquharson Conference Centre, Police Headquarters, September 21-- 23, 2026

The workshop brings together officials from port, security, customs, law enforcement and digital innovation agencies and will conclude with a table-top exercise simulating a cyber incident targeting Bahamian ports. Some of the topics addressed in the forum: Current and emerging maritime cyber threats -- analysis of the evolving threat landscape affecting the maritime and logistics sectors in the region; Security of maritime systems and infrastructure -- protecting integrated IT and Operational Technology (OT) environments, including port and vessel systems; Technological innovations in maritime security -- the impact, opportunities and risks of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and automation; Strategic frameworks for resilience -- implementing security and privacy best practice within national digital transformation and infrastructure projects; Securing the maritime supply chain -- strategic approaches to protecting critical data exchange and logistics platforms; The human factor and insider risk -- managing internal security challenges and fostering a strong cybersecurity culture in sensitive maritime environments; Governance, risk and compliance -- applying international standards and maritime-specific guidelines to risk management processes; and Incident coordination and response -- leveraging national coordination mechanisms and SOC/CSIRT integration for effective crisis management.
