We are thrilled to announce that Patrick McGroarty is joining the Business desk as a new economics editor.
Patrick joins us from The Wall Street Journal, where he spent 16 years, most recently as acting deputy world coverage chief. Prior to that, Patrick was The Journal's health and medicine bureau chief in New York, where he helped drive coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic and edited prize-winning work on topics including fertility technology and the opioid crisis.
Patrick was The Journal's deputy bureau chief in Chicago and a reporter based in Johannesburg and Berlin, perches he used to cover economics, politics and other news from more than 30 countries on four continents.
Before joining The Journal in Berlin, he worked for The Associated Press and conducted a Fulbright scholarship there. He started his career at the weekly Dorchester Reporter after graduating from Boston College with a degree in philosophy and German.
Patrick will be based in New York and will work closely with Deborah, who oversees the economics team, as we tackle the biggest and most important story of the year.
Please join us in welcoming Patrick.
