Condemned Incarcerated Person Armando Macias Dies

FOLSOM - Armando Macias, who was serving a condemned sentence, died on April 2, 2026, while incarcerated at California State Prison, Sacramento (SAC). He was 50 years old.

At approximately 7 a.m., Macias was found unresponsive in his assigned cell. Responding staff initiated life-saving measures and summoned an ambulance. Macias was pronounced deceased at 8:01 a.m. by paramedics. SAC's Investigative Services Unit is investigating the incident. The Sacramento County Coroner will determine his official cause of death.

Macias was received from Orange County on Sept. 6, 2011, and placed on a condemned status for first-degree murder.

SAC opened in 1986 and houses more than 2,200 medium-, maximum- and high-security incarcerated persons. SAC offers academic classes and vocational programs and employs approximately 1,500 people.
