Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the latest developments in Yemen

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the threats by the Houthis against maritime shipping to and from Saudi Arabia.

The protection of navigational rights and freedoms, in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), remains a fundamental priority.

Greece recognises the fundamental role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the member States of the Gulf Cooperation Council in promoting regional security and stability, as well as for the stability of the global economy. We remain committed in strengthening our partnership with Saudi Arabia in promoting peace and stability.

Dialogue and diplomatic engagement remain the only viable path in achieving a sustainable political solution in Yemen. Greece reaffirms its full support for the efforts of the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, towards achieving a negotiated, inclusive, Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned political settlement.
