WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Nellie Pou (D-NJ-09) the evening voted against H.R. 3838, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026, after it was loaded with partisan and non-military measures.
"In an uncertain and increasingly dangerous world, preserving America's military might is more important than ever. As a result, funding for national defense has always been collaborative and bipartisan. Until now," said Congresswoman Pou. "Instead of using the annual defense authorization bill to reclaim Congress's Article One powers and draw a red line on the use of the U.S. military to enforce domestic laws, the majority has allowed rightwing extremists to hijack our important annual defense measure and have turned it into a vehicle for partisan causes that have nothing to do with defending America or world freedom. This measure concerns itself more with political foodfights and less with national security. For these reasons, I voted against this partisan bill."
