Polymer commemorative banknote R.O 1

The Central Bank of Oman is pleased to announce the issuance of the One Rial Polymer Commemorative Banknote, the first of its kind in the history of Omani Currency. The new polymer commemorative banknote will be put into circulation starting from 11th January 2026.

This commemorative banknote is made from a polymer substrate that differs from the current circulated cotton banknotes, offering specific durability and security features.

The 145x76 mm banknote comes with a design that incorporates a combination of the national achievements such as the Oman Botanic Garden on the front side and Sayyid Tarik bin Taimour Cultural Complex, Duqm Port and Duqm Refinery on the back side of the banknote, creating a wonderful blend of Omani national identity.

In addition, the new commemorative banknote includes diverse set of security features such as the large transparent window represented by the arched windows of the Oman Botanic Garden, which occupied a large area of the banknote, in addition to the optically variable ink represented by the Frankincense Tree on the front side of the banknote, as well as the iridescent ink as the CBO's pattern on the back side of the commemorative banknote.

The Central Bank of Oman confirms that the new One Riyal commemorative banknote will circulate alongside the existing banknotes and will be valid with its legal tender value for use in all transactions. It also clarified that 1000 uncut sheets and 10,000 banknotes allocated in elegantly designed envelopes will be available for sale at the Central Bank of Oman (Ruwi-Salalah-Sohar) and Oman Post's sales window at the Opera Galleria, starting from 11th January 2026.
