Father and Son Convicted for Series of Armed ATM Robberies

Myahl Chapman-Joseph was convicted by a jury of eight counts of robbery and one count of attempted robbery. The jury also found true that he personally used a firearm during the robberies. His father, Deleon Joseph, was convicted of one count of robbery with the allegation that he was armed with a firearm during the robbery found true. The jurors further found true aggravating factors that the crimes involved planning, professionalism, or sophistication; and that Chapman-Joseph was armed with a weapon.

Between September 9, 2023, and December 25, 2023, the father-and-son team carried out nine robberies at ATM locations belonging to Wells Fargo Bank and Golden 1 Credit Union. During each robbery, Chapman-Joseph wore a mask to conceal his identity, ambushed victims while they were withdrawing money at an ATM, and threatened them with a firearm. The investigation determined that Deleon Joseph acted as the getaway driver. A subsequent search of the defendants' residence resulted in the recovery of two firearms used in the robberies.

Myahl Chapman-Joseph faces a sentence of 46 years, and Deleon Joseph faces 7 years in state prison. Sentencing is scheduled for October 28, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in Department 12C before the Honorable Laurel White.
