Following several downtown business walks and ongoing conversations with property and business owners, residents, employees, and other downtown stakeholders, the City is taking additional steps to improve downtown parking. While it may not be the only concern raised, it is an area where the City can take immediate action.
Based on feedback received, the City is implementing several changes intended to make parking easier for those who live, work, and visit downtown:
-
Clarifying and harmonizing parking rules. More clear, consistent, and unified signage will be installed in surface lots and on-street parking locations.
-
Beginning free parking in surface lots and on-street at 5 p.m. on weekdays. Parking in surface lots and on-street will remain free on the weekends.
-
Publicizing free parking options. Parking is free in public surface lots and on-street locations after 5 pm Monday - Friday, on weekends, and on City-recognized holidays. The first hour of parking is free in City parking decks until 7 pm Monday - Friday. Parking is free in all City parking decks on Sundays.
-
Enforcing consistently. Parking rules across downtown will be enforced consistently with posted time limits and required payment as noted on signage.
-
Making it easier to use the City's digital payment system. ParkMobile is the City's vendor for digital parking payments. Payment can be made through the app or by calling 877-727-5301.
-
Clearly designating loading zones for deliveries. Loading zone signage will be clarified and consolidated to include food deliveries and curbside pickup to better support downtown businesses.
-
Reviewing outdoor dining patio locations. Outdoor dining patios approved in on-street parking spaces will be reviewed in coordination with lease holders.
-
Working on program details for a downtown service employees parking program.
-
Exploring payment validation options for patrons visiting downtown businesses.
The City provides more than 4,400 public parking spaces across City-owned parking decks, surface lots, and on-street location, offering a mix of free and paid options throughout downtown.
