Representative Tran Cosponsors Legislation to Improve Transparency and Accountability in Immigration Enforcement Actions

Washington, DC - U.S. Representative Derek Tran (CA-45) cosponsored legislation to increase transparency and safety in interactions between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and the public. The ICE Visibility Act of 2025, introduced by Representatives Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12) and Don Beyer (VA-08), would require all Immigration officers, including those deputized, to wear visible and identifiable uniforms while on duty.

"Public safety depends on trust between law enforcement and the communities they protect. When Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers wear plain clothes, masks, and obscure proper procedure in their enforcement actions, that erodes the community's trust in ICE to fairly and effectively uphold the law," said Representative Tran. "I'm proud to join my colleagues in cosponsoring the ICE Visibility Act to ensure that our laws are enforced fairly and transparently to keep our communities safe."

There have been several reports of masked ICE agents carrying out immigration enforcement activities across LA and Orange Counties. Representative Tran's office continues to receive messages from community members expressing their concerns about the ICE enforcement actions undermining community trust in law enforcement.

On June 12, 2025, Representative Tran, alongside Representatives Gil Cisneros (CA-31) and George Whitesides (CA-27), sent a letterto U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth demanding answers regarding the deployment of armed forces to Los Angeles. During a recent House Armed Services Committee hearing, Tran pressed Secretary Hegsethon the militarized response to domestic protests and lack of coordination with state and local law enforcement to keep community members safe. Tran, joined by Representatives Cisneros and Judy Chu (CA-28), alsoled a letterto U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons condemning the agencies for unlawfully denying their entry to the Adelanto ICE Processing Facility during an oversight visit conducted on June 8, 2025.
