Sen. Ossoff, Colleagues Launch Inquiry into Department of Defense’s Use of AI Software Known for Antisemitic Content

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is demanding answers as the Department of Defense plans to use AI software known for antisemitic content.

Today, Sen. Ossoff and Senate colleagues launched an inquiry with Department of Defense (DoD) Secretary Pete Hegseth demanding answers over reports that the Agency plans to let the xAI chatbot, Grok, operate inside of DoD networks, despite reports that the chatbot has promoted antisemitic and other dangerous content.

Last year, there were numerous, publicly reported examples of Grok wrongfully spreading antisemitic posts and Holocaust denialism through its prompted engagement with neo-Nazi accounts.

Sen. Ossoff is joined by Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Richard Durbin (D-IL), John Hickenlooper (D-CO), and Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA).

"We write with concern regarding your recent announcement at SpaceX that Grok, xAI's chatbot, will join Google's generative AI engine in operating inside the Department of Defense (DoD)'s network," Sen. Ossoff and the group wrote to Secretary Hegseth. "We are particularly concerned by this development, given Grok's reported recent track record promoting Holocaust denial, spreading racist ideologies, and generating deepfake pornography of children."

"In the summer of 2025, Grok issued several antisemitic comments and threads, including stating that it was skeptical that six million Jews were killed in the Holocaust. More recently, the chatbot produced fake pornographic images of real people. Grok's generation of such content has triggered various investigations of the platform and the potential use of this model by a federal agency is troubling," Sen. Ossoff and the group continued.

Sen. Ossoff continues working to combat antisemitism.

In December 2025, Sen. Ossoff and every Senate Democrat introduced a resolution condemning antisemitism, white supremacy, hate, and efforts to give a platform to dangerous ideologies, which came after Tucker Carlson interviewed Nick Fuentes, who has denied the Holocaust and praised Adolf Hitler.

Last summer, Sen. Ossoff a bipartisan group of Senators pressed Elon Musk after reports that his AI platform, Grok, repeatedly used antisemitic language on X, formerly known as Twitter.

In July 2023, Sen. Ossoff delivered keynote remarks at a community rally in Macon-Bibb County following antisemitic demonstrations, where he spoke about his experiences learning from his own family members who survived the Holocaust about antisemitism and the importance of speaking out against all symbols of hate and murder.

In December 2022, Sen. Ossoff and fellow members of the Bipartisan Task Forces for Combatting Antisemitism urgedPresident Biden to establish a new interagency task force to address the rise in antisemitism across the U.S.

In March 2022, Sen. Ossoff gave a passionate speech on the Senate floor, encouraging his colleagues to combat the scourge of antisemitism at home and around the world by confirming Dr. Deborah Lipstadt to serve as United States Special Envoy for Monitoring and Combating Antisemitism.

Also in March 2022, Sen. Ossoff pressed a senior FBI official on the Bureau's work to prevent, investigate, and prosecute antisemitic hate crimes, where he cited recent high-profile attacks against Jewish Americans, including at Congregation Beth Israel in Texas and the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pennsylvania.
