Rep. Salazar’s PANA Act Amendment Passes Unanimously in House Foreign Affairs Committee

Washington D.C.- Last night, Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar's PANA Act amendment to the State Department reauthorization bill, secured unanimous approval during the House Foreign Affairs Committee markup.

The amendment establishes a "Venezuela Restoration Fund", made up of nearly $4 billion in frozen assets in the United States seized from corrupt regime operatives tied to Chavez and Maduro. These resources will be redirected to help build Venezuela's democracy and freedom.

"This is a crucial time for Venezuela and thanks to President Trump's leadership, the Maduro Regime is wavering, and it could fall." Said Rep. Salazar. "Once Maduro and his cronies are gone it will be necessary to rebuild Venezuela from the destruction of Socialism. The PANA Act takes stolen money and turns it into a tool for freedom."

Background:

Transparency and accountability are at the heart of PANA Act. For decades, Venezuela has been crippled by a systemic corruption, with public wealth stolen and billions of dollars laundered abroad. The Venezuela restoration fund ensures that frozen assets in the United States are not left in a legal limbo, but instead redirected into transparent, accountable programs that directly benefit the Venezuelan people.

The fund will be subject by strict oversight and reporting requirements ensuring that money seized from corrupt regime operatives is used responsible to promote democracy, protect human rights, and strengthen institutions that have been dismantled under dictatorship.
