Help Project Shepherd's backpack drive for kids

Each year, Lakewood's homegrown charity Project Shepherd, organizes a drive to provide free backpacks filled with school supplies to registered Lakewood kids in need.

New backpacks and supplies are needed for preschool/kindergarten, elementary, and middle & high school age students.

How you can help

Check our flyer(PDF, 748KB)for the list of supplies needed.

Purchase and drop off new backpacks and school supplies at these locations no later than Monday, July 28.

  • Recreation Department at Lakewood City Hall (during regular business hours).
  • Burns Community Center at 5510 Clark Ave. from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

What is Project Shepherd?

Project Shepherd is a non-profit organization run by the City of Lakewood and the Rotary Club of Lakewood.

Since 1972, this neighbor-to-neighbor assistance program has collected canned goods, dry staples, toys, backpacks and personal care items to distribute to Lakewood families in need throughout the year and around the holiday season.
