Shore Medical Center Earns Third Consecutive ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

Shore Medical Center earned an "A" Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an "A", "B", "C", "D" or "F" grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

"Our third consecutive 'A' Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group reflects the excellence, dedication, and consistency of our entire team. I thank every member of the Shore family for delivering the highest quality care in the safest possible environment," said David Hughes, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shore Medical Center. "This recognition builds on an extraordinary year, including being named a Leapfrog Top Hospital, one of only 65 hospitals nationwide in the general hospital category, being recognized as a Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes for the second year in a row, and once again receiving the Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health Award."

"Delivering safe, high-quality care takes constant focus, teamwork, and attention to detail across every part of our organization," said Valerie M. DeJoseph, MS, RVT, RDMS, Administrative Director of Quality, Medical Staff Services & Regulatory at Shore Medical Center. "Earning a Leapfrog 'A' for the third consecutive rating period, following our recent Joint Commission survey and successful completion of the rigorous triennial accreditation process, reinforces our commitment to continuously improving care and safety for every patient."

"An 'A' Grade is a strong sign that Shore Medical Center is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction."

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
