UPDATE (September 26, 12:30 p.m.) | The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) has arrested 36-year-old Christopher Collins and rescued 42-year-old Jesserae Beck after a nearly 15-hour citywide search.
"[Thursday] was a true show of the grit and determination of the officers and investigators at the Lincoln Police Department," said Police Chief Michon Morrow.
On Thursday, September 25, just after 10:30 p.m., the LPD SWAT Team executed a search warrant in partnership with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office (LSO) and Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) at 200 Santa Fe Trail. Through the investigative process, a singular breadcrumb led investigators to determine Collins could be at the residence, which is a rental property he owns.
While approaching the home, SWAT officers smelled the strong odor of natural gas. They quickly entered and located Beck and Collins in a back bedroom. Beck was promptly evacuated to safety and taken to the hospital to be treated for significant but non-life-threatening injuries.
"While I'm very proud of the team effort here, I want to lift up Jesserae Beck. This is why we do this job is for the Jesseraes of our community and she was a warrior. And she turned seconds into minutes and stretched minutes into hours to allow us to find her," said Assistant Chief Jason Stille.
A brief struggle took place with Collins. Once placed in custody, he was escorted from the home. Nearby homes were also evacuated due to the natural gas. Lincoln Fire & Rescue (LFR) responded to check the hazard and ensure safety of the neighborhood. Collins is in the Lancaster County Jail for domestic assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, terroristic threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and protection order violation.
"We want to be clear: victims are never to blame for the actions of their abusers. Domestic violence is complex, and decisions made by survivors are often shaped by fear, hope, or difficult circumstances. Our focus remains on holding offenders accountable and connecting survivors with the resources and support they need to stay safe," said Special Victims Unit Lieutenant Michelle Jochum.
LPD would like to thank the sworn personnel and professional staff who worked tirelessly on this case, along with our partners at LSO, NSP and LFR, plus the community, for assisting in the investigation.
The rescue of Jesserae was the best possible outcome in this situation. LPD is grateful she is safe and will be reunited with her family.

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) is requesting public assistance in locating 42-year-old Jesserae Beck and 36-year-old Christopher Collins.
On Wednesday, September 24, around 10 p.m., Beck left her home and told one of her children she was going to Collins' home at 9420 Eagleton Lane in northeast Lincoln. Around 8 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, two of Beck's children contacted police for a welfare check after being unable to locate her at Collins' home.
The LPD SWAT Team was activated and entered Collins' home shortly after 10:30 a.m. No one was inside. However, investigators discovered a significant scene that appears there was a struggle, leading investigators to believe Beck may be seriously injured.
LPD investigators were actively assisting Beck with previous allegations of domestic assault and violation of a protection order involving Collins. Beck was scheduled to meet with investigators at 9:30 a.m. Thursday but did not arrive. Her last known criminal justice system contact was at the courthouse Wednesday afternoon regarding a protection order that had been granted last month.
Collins should be considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, do not approach and call 911 immediately.
Anyone with information, including photos or surveillance video, is asked to call the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600. We ask residents and businesses to review security camera footage from the early morning hours of September 25 for anything that may assist the investigation.
