Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation meets with EUMAM MOZ

Maputo, Mozambique - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria Manuela dos Santos Lucas, met this morning with the Director of the European Union Military Planning and Conduct Capability (DMPCC) and EUMAM MOZ Commander, Lieutenant General Michiel van der Laan, at the headquarters.

The Head of Mission of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Mozambique, Ambassador Antonino Maggiore, also joined this important meeting highlighting the EU's commitment to supporting Mozambique through a comprehensive approach that promotes peace, stability and operational effectiveness.

The visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation to EUMAM MOZ reflects continued support for, and recognition of, the Mission's work, and serves to further strengthen the partnership between the Mozambique and the EU. It underscores the commitment of both sides to deepening cooperation and enhancing the effectiveness of joint efforts in support of stability and capacity-building of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM) in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado.

The DMPCC is undertaking a two-day visit to the Mission, during which he will meet with senior representatives of Mozambique. The programme is designed to provide an opportunity for high-level engagement on ongoing cooperation, as well as to discuss shared priorities in the context of the Mission's mandate.

As a non-executive European Union Mission, EUMAM MOZ focuses on the operational training cycle, maintenance, and specialised training, contributing to the autonomy and operational readiness of the FADM. The Mission brings together military and civilian personnel from 12 European nationalities and operates in full compliance with International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law.
