Warren Statement on CFTC Probe Into Suspicious Oil Trades

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Ranking Member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, issued a statement on reports that the Commodity Future Trading Commission (CFTC) will investigate "well-timed" oil futures trades ahead of Donald Trump's announcements related to conflict in Iran:

"The Trump Administration has been a cesspool of corruption since day one, and these suspicious oil trades look like an appalling example of insiders rigging the market. This is a start, but CFTC and the SEC should do their job and investigate anything that looks like insider trading by Trump Administration officials. And they should brief Congress and the American public on how they will hold corrupt actors accountable."

This news follows Senator Warren and Senator Whitehouse's request on April 9th for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to investigate unusual trading patterns in oil futures that took place immediately preceding two major Trump Administration announcements regarding the military conflict with Iran.
