Date of issue 2026.06.18
The Bundesnetzagentur has today published its annual report on broadband speed tests for 2024/2025. It shows the data results that users have received using the Bundesnetzagentur's broadband speed checker desktop app ("Breitbandmessung Desktop-App") for stationary connections and its broadband and dead spot check app ("Breitbandmessung/Funkloch-App", since May 2026 under the name "Mobilfunk-Check") for mobile connections.
Results for fixed and mobile broadband connections
In the fixed broadband network, 85.9% of users measuring their connection speed obtained a download speed of at least half their contractually agreed maximum speed (2023/2024: 86.5%). The proportion of users whose connection had a speed equivalent to or higher than their contractually agreed maximum speed was 45.9% (2023/2024: 45.2%). The results are similar to those of the previous year.
There was again an increase in the proportion of 5G measurements by mobile broadband users. 5G accounted for 55.3% of the tests taken into account in the annual report (2023/2024: 43.8%). 5G makes it possible to achieve very high data transmission rates, which are sometimes well over the contractually agreed estimated maximum speeds of the relevant tariffs. Overall, the results from tests with 5G, particularly in the high bandwidth categories, are considerably better than with 4G.
Speed test results do not allow conclusions on broadband coverage
The test results depend on the tariffs agreed between the users and their providers. They show if the providers supply their customers with the contractually agreed bandwidth. It should be noted that the report is based solely on the measurements of users of the apps and not on a representative sample. It is therefore not possible to draw conclusions about broadband coverage or the availability of broadband internet access.
Annual report on broadband speed tests
The 10th annual report covers the period from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2025. A total of 184,452 valid tests by fixed broadband users (2023/2024: 276,081) and 766,838 valid tests by mobile broadband users (2023/2024: 562,305) were taken into account in the report.
The report has been published on the Bundesnetzagentur's website: Breitbandmessung Annual Report 2024/2025 (pdf / 3 MB)
