City Releases GSO2040 Implementation Update

In conjunction with World Town Planning Day, Greensboro Planning Department has released its semiannual GSO2040 Comprehensive Plan implementation newsletter. Read it online.

The newsletter marks five years since the City adopted the comprehensive plan during the summer of 2020. Since its inception, Greensboro has taken strides to fulfill the big ideas outlined in the plan through City and community programs, the adoption of several small area plans, and more.

At a quarter of the way through the comprehensive plan, this update summarizes some of the most important projects and trends shaping Greensboro. Here are a few examples:

  • The introduction of the Road to 10,000 initiative, which aims to increase the City's housing stock, supports continued growth in Greensboro by ensuring access to diverse housing options for residents at all income levels.

  • Creating safer and more accessible travel through the Neighborhood Traffic Management Plan, new cross-town bus lines, and completing the Downtown Greenway.

  • Successes from small area and corridor plans such as the Randleman Road Phase 2 Corridor Plan, East Gate City Boulevard Plan, and Fleming Road Area Plan.

"World Town Planning Day is an opportunity for us to recognize how important planning is to the growth and development of our city and the preservation of our beloved neighborhoods and spaces," said Planning Director Sue Schwartz. "It's the perfect day to celebrate the progress we've made on our GSO2040 goals."

American Planning Association's World Town Planning Day is observed annually on November 8. Planners and communities across 30 countries take the day to recognize how planning improves people's quality of life by promoting healthy, prosperous communities.
