The increasing sophistication of robots and their widespread introduction everywhere: from agriculture to the home, from hospitals to public spaces, disrupts existing legal regimes and requires new thinking on policy issues.
Leading scholars and practitioners will gather at the University of Windsor in April to discuss these issues.
The We Robot conference aims to address the evolving challenges posed by the ubiquity of robots and artificial intelligence across various sectors, says organizer Kristen Thomasen, a professor in the Faculty of Law.
"We Robot is a thoroughly interdisciplinary conference focused on the intersections of law and policy with robotics and artificial intelligence," she says. "We have an amazing agenda to share soon, which will bring together experts from across Canada, the U.S., and internationally."
Windsor will mark the first time the event will be held in person in Canada since it launched in 2012.
"I'm excited for Windsor Law and the broader Windsor community to collaborate in this crucial conversation, at a time when robotics and AI regulation is top of mind in Canada," Thomasen says.
Students, faculty, and community members are welcome to join the conversations between the people designing, building, and deploying robots, and the people who design or influence the legal and social structures in which they operate. Registration will open soon. To register, visit werobot2025.ca.
