Governor appoints Richard Moran to Bernalillo Magistrate Court

SANTA FE - Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham on Monday appointed Albuquerque attorney Richard J. Moran to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court, Division 6.
Moran will take the bench on October 24, 2026. He brings more than two decades of experience in New Mexico courtrooms, including criminal defense, civil litigation and public service with the City of Albuquerque.
Since 2010, Moran has practiced at Ahmad Assed & Associates in Albuquerque, representing clients in criminal and civil matters in Metropolitan, Magistrate, District and federal courts. From 2006 to 2010, Moran served as an assistant city attorney for the City of Albuquerque. In that role, he served as a special prosecutor in the Traffic Arraignment program at Metropolitan Court, where he supervised a team of paralegals and negotiated more than 1,000 plea agreements. Moran was named a Super Lawyer for criminal law in 2025 and for personal injury in 2026.
Moran was born in Silver City. He earned his bachelor's degree magna cum laude in English and political science from the University of New Mexico in 2000 and his law degree from the UNM School of Law in 2004.
