Former Google Executive and Author Alana Karen to Keynote a2Tech360’s Women in Tech Event

One of a2Tech360's most popular signature events returns September 28 with expanded experiences, including AI-powered networking and a complimentary workbook for every attendee

One of a2Tech360's most anticipated events returns Sept. 28 with former Google executive and author Alana Karen headlining a day dedicated to empowering women in technology. Held at Washtenaw Community College's Morris J. Lawrence Building, Women in Tech will feature Karen's keynote based on The Adventures of Women in Tech (Second Edition): Navigating the Hard Tech Era, along with interactive networking, expert speakers, and practical professional development. Every attendee will receive a complimentary companion workbook based on Karen's book, featuring reflection prompts, exercises, and action-planning tools to help turn inspiration into action long after the event concludes.

Women in Tech has consistently sold out as professionals from across Michigan gather for a day of inspiration, learning, and meaningful connections. To meet growing demand, this year's event expands to accommodate up to 300 attendees while introducing new interactive experiences designed to foster authentic networking and professional growth.

Running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event debuts a new daytime format developed in response to attendee feedback, making it easier for professionals to invest in career development during the workday while still enjoying ample opportunities to connect with peers. Tickets include a light breakfast, lunch, and a networking reception.

"Technology is built by people, and when we create environments where more voices are heard, everyone benefits," said Alana Karen. "I'm looking forward to joining the Ann Arbor community to share stories, challenge assumptions, and help attendees walk away with practical tools, stronger connections, and the confidence to continue shaping the future of our industry."

In addition to Karen's keynote, Women in Tech will feature engaging panel discussions, interactive attendee experiences, meaningful networking, and the Women in Tech Resource Marketplace, where attendees can explore women-led startups, AI demonstrations, career resources, mentorship opportunities, community organizations, and companies committed to supporting women in technology.

A new highlight this year is an exclusive Women in Tech experience powered by Nunchi, an AI-powered relationship intelligence platform founded by longtime Michigan tech leader and entrepreneur Trista Van Tine. Created to help people build stronger professional relationships, Nunchi will provide attendees with curated networking opportunities and personalized introductions based on their interests, goals, and professional backgrounds - creating a more intentional networking experience before, during, and after the event. The collaboration also reflects Ann Arbor SPARK's commitment to supporting and showcasing innovative startups emerging from the region's technology ecosystem.

Confirmed speakers include Juliana Ashrifeh (Georgetown University), Beatrice Fullan (Oracle), Emefa Boamah (Emefa Boamah Embodiment Coaching), Elaine Ezekiel (Atomic Object), Kaitlyn Kunz (Charles Schwab), Anne Marsan (CareEvolution), Heather Kelly (Switchbox), and Praveena Ramaswami (Cargility), with additional speakers to be announced.

"Women in Tech has become one of the cornerstone events of a2Tech360 because it goes beyond inspiration - it creates genuine opportunities for connection, collaboration, and growth," said Jennifer Olmstead, vice president of business development at Ann Arbor SPARK. "Whether you're a student, founder, engineer, executive, or ally, you'll leave with new relationships, practical strategies, and a stronger sense of community. This year's experience is our most interactive yet, and we're excited to showcase innovative technology developed right here in our region alongside an incredible lineup of speakers."

Women in Tech is one of eight signature events during a2Tech360, Ann Arbor SPARK's annual celebration of innovation taking place September 22 through October 2. The 10-day series brings together entrepreneurs, researchers, investors, startups, established companies, and community leaders through conferences, networking events, pitch competitions, career events, and community celebrations showcasing the strength of Michigan's innovation economy. Together with a robust lineup of Partner Events, many of which are free to attend, a2Tech360 offers more than 20 events across the region throughout the 10-day celebration.
