MALAYSIA STRONGLY CONDEMNS ISRAEL'S MANDATORY DEATH PENALTY TARGETING

PALESTINIANS

Malaysia strongly condemns the passage of a law by the Israeli Zionist regime imposing a mandatory death penalty in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and its de facto application against the Palestinians. The law is clearly discriminatory against Palestinians, and it removes all judicial discretion.

The legislation that explicitly targets individuals based on their ethnicity and national identity is clearly a flagrant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention and relevant international human rights covenants. It is yet another discriminatory measure by the Israeli Zionist regime to entrench the apartheid system in its unlawful occupation of the Palestinian Territory.

Malaysia also stands with the international community in echoing the concerns over the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention, amid credible reports of ongoing abuses, including torture, inhumane and degrading treatment, starvation, and the denial of basic rights.

Malaysia urges the international community to take firm, principled, and collective action to ensure accountability, uphold international law, and bring an end to all forms of discriminatory and oppressive practices against the Palestinian people.
