Australia: RICS releases updated Red Book Australia National Supplement

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has today released the updated edition of the RICS Valuation - Global Standards: Australia National Supplement (commonly known as the Red Book Australia National Supplement), providing essential information for RICS valuation members working within Australian jurisdictions.

The 2025 edition sets out the relevant valuation licensing and registration requirements across Australian states and territories, including mutual recognition arrangements with New Zealand, and outlines the key laws and regulatory frameworks that apply to valuers in Australia.

It has been issued as Practice Information under the RICS Valuation - Global Standards (Red Book Global Standards), which adopts and applies the International Valuation Standards (IVS).

The Supplement supports RICS members who are practising valuation in Australia-or considering relocating to work within the Australian market-by providing clear guidance on the national legislative landscape. It reinforces RICS's commitment to maintaining the highest levels of professionalism, ethics, and technical excellence across the valuation profession.

RICS members undertaking valuation work are required to comply with the IVS, the Red Book Global Standards, and the RICS Rules of Conduct. Together, these frameworks ensure that RICS members and firms are positioned as the leading global providers of IVS-compliant valuations, delivering the most rigorous valuation standards available both in Australia and internationally.

Kevin Brogan FRICS, RICS Australasian Chair:

"It is very pleasing to see the release of this updated Red Book Australia National Supplement. It provides an invaluable reference point for both RICS members and the broader profession in understanding RICS's role and position within Australia's valuation licensing and legislative frameworks. This update reinforces RICS's commitment to supporting high professional standards and ensuring that our members continue to deliver trusted, globally recognised valuations that inspire confidence in markets and the public alike."
