Why Love Safely?

Alexandria Health Department hopes that this campaign not only encourages testing but sparks conversations about sexual and reproductive health.

"Sexual health is an integral part of one's holistic well-being," said AHD Director Dr. David Rose, "and it is essential for self-care and healthy relationships.

"We want people to reflect on their health, talk openly with partners, and take advantage of local resources. Plus, with local businesses getting on board, we hope that this uplifts the importance of sexual health across our entire city."

One sexual health topic AHD hopes to highlight specifically is sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention. Alexandria Health Department has some of the highest STI rates in Virginiaand has seen rates steadily rising for the past decade.

"Getting a free STI test is the only way to know if you have an STI," said Dr. Rose. "This February, come in for a free STI test and take safe next steps for yourself and your partners."
