Spring Zero Waste Update

Spring Zero Waste Update

Published on April 09, 2026

Environmental Services Department in partnership with local organizations had 495 vehicles visit its Spring 2026 Tucson Zero Waste Collection Event. Held Saturday, March 28 at Catalina United Methodist Church, the drive-thru event provided Tucson residents with a convenient, one-stop opportunity to responsibly dispose of items that might otherwise end up in the landfill.

Since its launch in April 2022 in partnership with Pima County, Mrs. Green's World and Goodwill of Southern Arizona, the Tucson Zero Waste event has steadily grown in attendance. This spring's event continued that momentum, diverting thousands of pounds of materials from the landfill, including:

  • Goodwill - 206 cars

  • Treasures 4 Teachers - 40 boxes

  • Recyco - 1,930 pounds scrap metal

  • Beacon - 7412 pounds paper

  • Still Good - 10,470 pounds of electronics

  • Still Good - 180 pounds of medical equipment

  • Friends of Pima County Library - 5,245 pounds of books & CDs

  • El Grupo - 5 Bikes

  • Lions Club - 1,784 pairs of glasses

  • Daughter of the American Revolution - 320 American Flags

These events show what's possible when our community comes together around sustainability. Every item donated, recycled, or repurposed represents a step toward Tucson's Zero Waste goals and a more circular economy.

The Tucson Zero Waste event was created to highlight the many local organizations that accept donations and recyclable materials year-round. While the drive-thru event offers convenience, residents are encouraged to continue supporting these partners beyond the bi-annual event day.

Participating partners included Goodwill of Southern Arizona, El Grupo, Friends of the Pima County Public Library, The Beacon Group, Still Good, Recyco, Iskashitaa Refugee Network, and more.

The City reminds residents that hazardous materials such as paint, chemicals, and batteries are not accepted at Zero Waste events. These items can be properly disposed of at the City's Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events.
